Edition 1: A Little about me
I’m going to keep this casual. This blog is meant to be an overflow bin for my sometimes wild and idiotic opinions—though I’ll spare you those for this first entry.
A bit about me: my name is Kane, and I’m a photographer based in London. I take pictures almost every day, driven by a desire to capture not just my life but also the lives of those around me. This includes friends and family, of course, but I’m equally fascinated by the strangers I interact with. When I say “interact,” I don’t mean having conversations; I’m talking about sharing the same space, even for a fleeting moment. To me, that shared experience is worth recording.
I discovered my passion for photography at 14. One day, my granddad took me to a local estuary and encouraged me to photograph an owl he had spotted, using his entry-level Canon camera. I obliged, and as I snapped away, I felt an exhilarating thrill I hadn’t experienced before. It was as if I had uncovered a passion that would stay with me for life, and that feeling was something special.
From that day on, I took photos whenever I could. Eventually, I ended up at university in America, where I quickly became the university's sports photographer. I captured everything from golf to American football. It wasn’t long before people began requesting graduation and personal photoshoots.
To be honest, I can’t say I truly enjoyed that phase. There were moments I appreciated, but it never felt like what I really wanted to do. While I produced some impressive photos that reflect my skills, they didn’t define my artistic vision. That’s when I shifted my focus toward street photography, which is where I find myself now.
I often say I take photos, but I can no longer easily define what those photos are of. Yes, street photography is my primary theme, but I capture a bit of everything. Lately, I’ve found myself taking the most pictures of my friends, and I love that. It’s still art—just more personal, and I hope my friends value it as much as I do.
Honestly, I’m not sure what else to share about myself beyond the basics. I shoot with Fuji now, but I started with Canon, and like many “street photographers,” I aspire to one day shoot Leica. I’ll delve into that more another time.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ll follow along on my journey. I don’t have a specific goal right now, but I know I’ll find it in time. That journey is what I’m most excited about.
Cheers,
Kane
